Edward Pellow

Edward Pellow started with the company in 1965, as Manager and Assistant Secretary. He served as Tavistock agent from 1967 to 1969. He was appointed Secretary-Treasurer in 1973 and served until his retirement in 2003. The company underwent many changes and advances during his 38-year tenure.

The classes of windstorm and hail, liability, automobile and farmers’ accident were added to the insurance license. He appointed brokers. Agency offices were opened in Woodstock and Mitchell.

The company added six adjoining parcels of land to the corner location at 62 Woodstock Street. Pellow oversaw construction of a new office there in 1967 and additions in 1983 and 1996.

In the early 1980s, Pellow developed a computer software system for mutual insurance companies which lead to the establishment in 1996 of SEH Computer Systems Inc.

Ed Pellow is the only person to have served as chair of the Ontario Mutual Insurance Association (OMIA), the Farm Mutual Reinsurance Plan (Farm Mutual Re) and the Canadian Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (CAMIC). He is a recipient of the esteemed OMIA Presidential Merit Award.

Ed’s father, Thomas Pellow, served as a company director from 1955 to 1978. Combined, the Pellows served the company for 61 years.
