Purchase of 1926 Ford Model T “Chemical” Firetruck

The purchase of a 1926 Ford Model T “chemical” firetruck was not so much a piece of South Easthope Mutual history, but more the Village of Tavistock’s. (How it came to be a special part of South Easthope Mutual can be found further ahead in time). The Tavistock Village Council purchased the one-ton “chemical” firetruck, built by the Lorne Tractor Company of Ingersoll in October 1926, for $1,400.

The truck remained in service until August 1950. The siren, spotlight and firefighting peripherals were removed and the truck sold. It delivered groceries for a time and was used to haul firewood in Kitchener.
