A COVID-19 Message From Our President – February 2021

Dear Policyholder Members,

As the provincial government gradually permits some businesses to reopen in a limited capacity, health officials urge everyone to continue mitigation procedures to help reduce the spread of the virus, particularly when more aggressive variants are being discovered.

We apologize if the reduced staffing level and keeping our offices closed to the public has caused any inconvenience, as life during this pandemic continues. As always, your agent or broker remains your best first-person contact and is only a phone call away.

Our 2020 financials have been completed and I am pleased to report we finished the year with positive results. The high number of auto claims we experienced earlier in 2020 started to slow and in July claims results began to improve. This turnaround in results has made it possible for the board to approve a refund of premium on private passenger automobiles. This will apply to private passenger auto premiums in force at December 31, 2020.

A refund of premium has also been approved on property policies. Our Annual Report containing all the details will be mailed to members during the first week of March.

More 150th anniversary trivia: The refund of premium provision was first added to the company bylaws during the Great Depression in February 1938. The first refund of premium ever authorized was in 1939 for the 1938 year.

Due to the Pandemic, our annual meeting this year will be conducted virtually on Friday March 19, 2021.

More information on the Annual meeting will be posted on this website and will be included in the Annual Report mailed to you in March.

Thank you for your patience and for your support of South Easthope Mutual.

Sincerely,

Frank A. Rider, CIP

President
